Dr. Chang is serving as the president of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in 2012, which is the largest international organization for cataract and refractive surgeons, numbering over 9000 members.  Since 2005 Dr. Chang has served on a select national panel that issues practice guidelines for cataract surgery that are used worldwide (American Academy of Ophthalmology Preferred Practice Pattern Committee), and assumed the role of chairman in 2009. Dr. Chang has written numerous papers and chapters on cataract surgery, and is the author or editor of four best-selling textbooks on advanced cataract surgical techniques and artificial lens implants. His textbook Mastering Refractive IOLs covers the new lens implants, such as multifocal, accommodating, and toric lenses, and is considered the most comprehensive and authoritative textbook on the subject. He is on the editorial board of numerous ophthalmology journals and served for 5 years as Chief Medical Editor for Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today, one of the most widely read specialty trade journals for cataract surgeons.
